travel – sonoma county, ca.

sonoma county is a great general description, because we definitely made our rounds!

Patrick needed to make a trip to California for work, so we used that opportunity and make it a family trip… especially since  Patrick’s mom, Meg, had not met Baby B yet! We decided we were not going to tell her we were coming and make it a full on surprise that only Kate & Tess were in on.

About 3 weeks later, the big day had come and Brennan was on his first airplane! We were a bit nervous about the logistics of the trip, getting our suitcases, stroller, carseat and of course baby through the airport but everything went very smoothly. B was an angel on the flight, had a bottle on the way up and down to help ease any ear pain he may get and he slept the rest of the 4 hour flight on my lap. Once we landed, grabbed our bags, got our rental car and battled San Francisco traffic we were finally on our way up to Healdsburg for the big surprise!

Kate had every detail planned out, she was bringing dinner up to Noni’s where Meg was staying, that way our surprise wouldn’t create a concern for dinner plans, and we could all relax and enjoy our evening. We finally arrived and parked down the street, walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell. When Meg answered the door it was pure shock! No screams, no hellos… just hands over mouth and then arms stretched out for Brennan! After a few tears were shed, I think she finally said hello to Patrick & I… about 20 minutes later.

The rest of the week (for B and I, Patrick was off working in Reno and Los Angeles) was filled with family and fun!

He was the best baby the entire trip… even better then he is at home! Maybe it had something to do with the fact that we were constantly on the go, I was exhausting the poor bub. We had a lovely dinner at the Lombardi’s and Brennan was able to meet even more family! We had fabulous lunches out everyday and did some (ok a lot) of wine tasting in Healdsburg.

Some of the best times were spent lounging on Noni’s couch, letting B get a nap in the middle of her cozy bed, and spending quality time with the everyone.

It was so nice getting to spend time outside in the fresh California air. We’ve had limited outdoor time with B since he was born because its just too hot in Houston right now.

Our last and final stop, we packed up and headed to Bodega Bay to celebrate Meg’s birthday and a last hoorah before we flew back to Houston. It was B’s first trip to the beach and he loved it so much. The weather was perfect and it was a beautiful, relaxing day!

It was so wonderful to spend such good, quality time with our family and now that we know B is quite the good traveler, we can’t wait to make another trip soon!
